Vivo V5 plus review: Dual selfie action

In a plethora of similar looking smartphones in the marketplace, the Vivo v5 plus does have a different design but it’s familiar in all the right places. Test results of surveys everywhere showed that all a user wants in a smartphone is a camera that captures what you can show off with a grin, lightning fast phone, a stable interface and the smartest of apps to run smoothly. the rest of the unwanted apps and tech savvy stuff goes to waste if these basic needs are not fulfilled.
The Vivo v5 plus is here to impress all with these features as top prioritised on the list.
It runs with a beautiful dual camera technology on the front, made with Sony’s excellence and absolutely brilliant technology. a primary 20 mp camera, co-engineered with Sony gives stunning clarity, while a secondary 8 mp front camera provides the perfect depth-information, and together they create dslr like bokeh effects. Now dual cameras have been around for quite some time but front dual camera has been seen for the first time on the V5 plus.
The unique feature of selfie soft light (moon light selfie), brings a studio like effect, to capture those perfect selfies, allowing your beauty to shine bright through your pictures.
The sony IMX376* image sensor has a 1/2.78″ sensor size, an aperture of f/2.0, and a 5P lens system for the camera.
Such specs ensure you to have crystal clear selfies, fit enough to help you count your hair strands in what appeared to be a normal selfie portrait. enjoy exquisite clarity and vivid colours with each selfie shot.
Enjoy a beautiful bokeh mode to blur out your backgrounds and ensure that the attention is on the beautiful you. a simple toggle button ensures a smooth switch of operation, with lag period less than 0 seconds.
Shot refocus helps you change focus on your camera click, to show what’s important and blur out what’s not.
The additional moonlight feature gives you that perfect skin tone to make your skin gleam like that of a supermodel! believe me girls, you are gonna love this feature.
Enough on the front camera. lets see what’s at the back. a high quality rear 16 mp camera to turn moments into memories. Even the primary camera of this phone is great and does give you a lot of clarity for your day to day shots. the camera is located on the top left corner of the phone panel, accompanied with a side flash.
Considering what’s on the inside, is actually great if considered performance wise. an octa core processor with a 4 GB ram and a 64 GB internal storage, this allows lag free operation and is good on paper as well as real world usage.
The phone has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core CPU and it’s quite a reliable chipset for general day to day usage.
Experience the next generation Smart Engine management system, plus newly updated Funtouch OS 3.0 operating system (based on Android 6.0) which provide a seamlessly smooth performance. But considering the price this phone should have had the latest version of Android i.e. 7.0 Nougat.
The phone design is curvy and smooth. a 5.5 inch screen with curved side edges and ultra narrow bezels for a much more comfortable touch. While the delicate looks and admirable engine features may impress you, you still may be worried about the safety of the display. For this exact purpose this phone comes with a 5th generation Corning Gorilla Glass for added protection.
The V5 plus comes with a 3550 mAh battery and considering the compact form factor of the phone that’s quite good. The dual charging technology gives a safe way to charge your battery with some juice, while it does that at a 50% faster rate than most of the other phones you have witnessed.
A front fingerprint touch button is present on the V5 plus which can be used to unlock the smartphone. You can also, simply press your fingerprint button twice to open your favourite apps.
On the audio front too Vivo has not skimped this time. AK4376 dedicated Hi-Fi audio chip provides good sound quality, giving a signal-to-noise ratio of up to 115 dB.
A smart-split screen feature helps you multitask while you are busy during the day.
And one thing that we forget while buying a smartphone and gazing in it for hours in our day to day life, is that it effects eye-sight. I agree that you got a movie to watch at night, but why compromise with your vision. But the V5 plus does keep in account this factor too. A simple toggle button enables you to switch on eye protection mode, which softens the light tone and soothes the eye without causing viable damage to your vision.
So with a top-notch sound and light system, a lightning fast processor, a beautiful curvy design and cameras that make you look good and feel like a supermodel (by magazine standards), this phone is a good experience.
BUT now let’s talk price, the Vivo V5 plus comes at a price of INR 28,400 and for such a price I certainly feel that this smartphone is overpriced and there are better phones in the same price range like the OnePlus 3t.
For sure the Vivo V5 plus gets a lot of things right and it does have a great dual selfie camera but still the smartphone is overpriced and that does take away some of it’s charm.
