Panasonic has launched the LUMIX S9, its smallest full-frame L-mount mirrorless camera, aimed at content creators.
The camera boasts a sleek, compact design and features Panasonic’s proprietary Real-Time LUTs for extensive color adjustment options.
The LUMIX S9 is even smaller than the Fujifilm X100VI and is close in size to the Sony A7C II. Alongside the camera, Panasonic is also releasing a 26mm F8 pancake lens and an 18-40mm f/4.5-6.3 compact zoom lens.
Panasonic has introduced a new companion app, Lumix Lab, compatible with iOS and Android, enabling easy photo upload, editing, and sharing.
The LUMIX S9 is available internationally in five colors (black, blue, green, red, and black-silver) and priced at $1499. The lightweight 26mm f/8 pancake lens is priced at £219.
The LUMIX S9, Panasonic’s most affordable full-frame camera, shares technology with the award-winning Lumix S5 II, including a 24.2 MP sensor, 6K OpenGate video recording, 5-axis stabilization, and phase detection autofocus.
A new MP4 Lite video format, reducing file size by about 40%, has also been developed. The camera features a dedicated “LUT” button for applying various color profiles, including custom and preset options.
The LUMIX S9 lacks a viewfinder but includes a flip-out screen. Due to its slim design, it does not have the cooling fan found in the Lumix S5 II, which may require users to monitor for overheating.
Key features include:
- Compact, lightweight body (403g)
- 24.2 MP full-frame CMOS sensor
- Improved PDAF for precise autofocus
- Five-axis stabilization for steady shots
- MP4 Lite video mode for optimized smartphone videos
- Flip-out screen for flexible shooting angles
- New Lumix Lab app for faster content transfer and LUT filter creation
