Facebook’s Dislike button coming soon, confirmed by Mark Zuckerberg

Since like button was introduced by Facebook in the year 2009, users of the No. 1 social networking site have been requesting for a dislike button as well. Reason? Not to put someone in a derogatory situation but to make their opinion count. To show that something didn’t click with them and can be improved a lot.

Story behind making of Facebook’s dislike button

Initially, Facebook didn’t want to go overboard with the dislike button just like Reddit has a up vote and a down vote button. It would have been downright rude to many facebook users and would out their spirit of social networking down. To avoid such a situation, Facebook’s development team wants to come up with few emotions which can be associated with the dislike button. Dislike button will be for times when you cannot like a sad post in case of someone’s death. In that case, Facebook’s dislike button would be helpful for many users.

At a recent Question and Answer event at Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park, California, Mark Zuckerberg expressed his feelings and thoughts over the dislike button. According to him, dislike button would be a way for people to express their empathy. The company is pretty close to getting it ready for user testing.

“People have asked about the ‘dislike’ button for many years,” Mr Zuckerberg told the audience on Tuesday.

“Probably hundreds of people have asked about this, and today is a special day because today is the day that I actually get to say we are working on it and are very close to shipping a test of it.” said Mark Zuckerberg.
