Huawei Honor 5x review: A cheap yet good phone

Say hello to Honor 5x, the new entrant in the budget smartphone market which is giving jitters
to the existing models. With a bundle of great features available at a reasonable price, Honor
5X might just be your next smartphone. Let’s have a closer look at what this smartphone has in
store for you.
Design and Display:
One of the most sought after feature of Honor 5x is its design. At a reasonable price, the device
comes with an impeccable stylish look. Honor 5x has a metallic finish look but instead is plastic
made. The back of the phone is smooth and a pleasure to touch. There is also Honor branding
at the back side. The camera doesn’t protrude that much, hardly 2 mm and the branding is also
engraved. The back side also consists of a fingerprint scanner which is situated in round
depression.
The front side of the device gives a different look all together. The display is 5.5 inches (~72.2%
screen-to-body ratio). From the metallic gold back you get creamy white front without any
capacitative keys. The top side of the device holds a decent number of features like the speaker
grill, front camera, and transparent LED. You won’t be able to see the LED notification until it
blinks. The sides of the device, where gold meets white is a little weird because the mix gives a
different color altogether. Both volume rocker and power button are on the right-hand side and
left side hosts two slots, one for sim and another one for either a sim or a Micro SD. The overall
dimensions of the device stand at 151.3 x 76.3 x 8.2 mm.
Software and Performance:
Honor 5x comes packed with Snapdragon 616 with Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & Quad-core
1.2 GHz Cortex-A53. Along with Adreno 405 and Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, Honor 5x makes sure to
get things done for you. Emotion UI, Honor’s very own runs on top of Android Lollipop. But a
marshmallow update is not far behind if sources are to believed. The overall UI is very vibrant
and colourful. The icons have badges indicating how many notifications need your attention.
Honor has also done something unusual with their scanner. It has turned fingerprint scanner
into a trackpad that can detect the orientation of your swipes as well as the duration of your
press.
Here’s our gaming review of the Huawei Honor 5x:
There are many new screen gestures available like beloved double tap to wake, quick
application launching and one hand mode which can start with a single swipe. When it comes
to performance we have little doubts thanks to Snapdragon 616, which initially was launched
with much fanfare but soon when tested with actual devices, turned out to be just 615 v2. Now
combined with Honor 5x features, Snapdragon 616 gives satisfactory results in the
performance but takes a front seat when it comes to the battery consumption.
Camera:
Honor 5x comes loaded with the primary camera of 13 MP and a front camera of 5 MP. When it
comes to performance, both the cameras work alright but not that great. With such a feature
loaded phone, we were expecting cameras to be of much higher quality, but what we have isn’t
half that bad. The picture result is pretty good during day time and full light also but disappoints
still in low light.

Battery:
Honor 5x battery was the most surprising part of all. When you look at it, It’s just a 3000MaH
battery, but the performance is amazing! Even with a day full of social media, calls, and some
light games, there was some battery left after 24 hours which is pretty great!
