On May 7th, a Twitter user with the handle @Bionic_squash claimed that the iGPU of Intel Arrow Lake will be based on an improved version of the Xe-LPG architecture, namely Xe-LPG+.
This is different from the previously rumoured Xe²-LPG architecture. Despite this change, the new iGPU will still feature the latest generation of media engines.
An Intel engineer had previously leaked a roadmap revealing that both Meteor Lake and Lunar Lake would use a similar Xe-LPG architecture for their iGPUs.
Intel’s upcoming GPUs are being developed under the codenames Alchemist, Battlemage, and Celestial, which correspond to the Xe, Xe2, and Xe3 architectures, respectively. According to earlier rumours, Meteor Lake will use Xe-LPG architecture for its core display.
The display will be based on TSMC’s 5nm process, with a maximum of 128EU, a frequency of up to 2.1GHz, and computing performance of over 4 TFLOPs. It will also support DirectX 12 Ultimate and XeSS technology.
Additionally, this series of processors will feature a new Adamantine L4 cache, which should significantly improve core display performance. While it may theoretically come close to the RTX 3050 in performance, it may be challenging to achieve this level of performance in practice.
In contrast, Arrow Lake could feature up to 192 EUs, which suggests some graphics improvements. If development proceeds as planned, the 15th generation Core Lunar Lake may be the first to use the Battlemage GPU based on the Xe2 LPG architecture.
The next in line, the 16th generation Core Panther Lake, is expected to feature the new Celestial GPU based on the Xe3 LPG architecture. It’s worth noting that these follow-up products may take years to launch. In the meantime, we can look forward to seeing how the first-generation Xe GPUs in Meteor Lake and Lunar Lake perform and hope that they live up to expectations.
