According to a report from German automotive media Automobilwoche, the BMW Z4 and Toyota Supra will cease production in 2026. Reports earlier this year indicated that BMW plans to discontinue the Z4 when its current model cycle ends.
Initially, this news did not attract much attention as it highlighted the challenges faced by Austrian contract manufacturer Magna Steyr. The company will lay off 500 workers due to the end or impending end of production for models like the BMW 5 Series, Jaguar E-Pace and I-Pace, and Fisker Ocean.
Auto News reached out to Toyota regarding the future of the Supra. Toyota responded with,
“No news to announce at this time.”
However, Dave Christ, Vice President of Toyota Motor North America, mentioned that their collaboration with BMW was successful and added,
“We are evaluating what comes next.”
He hinted that Toyota might independently produce a new Supra model in the future, stating,
“If we want to make something, we always find a way.”
