YU Yunique Review, Most Affordable 4G Smartphone

The name has Yunique in it, and the device is also unique! Thanks to a great price of Rs 4,999 only and 4G connectivity, YU Yunique has beaten most of its competitors when it comes to low-budget smartphones! Available exclusively at Snapdeal, it will be available on flash sales which will be on a weekly basis!

In our YU Yunique review video too we have tried to test everything about this device in a comprehensive manner. YU Yunique also comes in the category of one of the three lowest prices phones that you can get in India! It’s amongst the lowest-priced 4G phones that you can get in India, the other phone is the newly launched Lenovo A2010.

The A2010 is priced a little less but doesn’t have an 8 MP back camera and does fall short on a few fronts.

YU Yunique review: Specifications and Overview

Design:

With a 4.7-inch screen, YU Yunique turns out to be a pretty sleek device as compared to its bulky predecessor, YU Yuphoria. Dimensions of the device are 134.50X67.60X8.30 and weighs only 128 gm which is almost feather-light as compared to other devices available in the market at the same price range.

The screen provides you with 1280X720 pixels at a screen density of 312 ppi which is more than decent enough to provide you with good-quality viewability and other UI features.

YU Yunique review display quality

On the front side of the phone, you find the front camera on the top left-hand side along with the logo of YU. The branding is minimalistic in all YU devices which is what makes it really classy to carry.

On the back side of the phone, you find traditional Saturn rings around the main camera with a flash. On the right-hand side, you can find volume buttons along with the power button.

Now the problem is that all three buttons are embedded into one, the power button being in between and the volume being on both sides. This might be a little hassle for users. We were expecting improvement in the placement since the YU Yuphoria.

Software:

With an extremely amazing price range, YU Yunique has made sure to power pack the device with as many goodies as they can. YU Yunique comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 410, a 1.2GHz quad-core processor with 1 GB RAM and internal storage of 8 GB.

It is expandable up to 32 GB using Micro SD card but then let’s not push our luck so much and you don’t even want your smartphone to lag in performance.

Now when we ran an Antutu benchmark, the Yunique scored 19,488 which is equivalent to many of its low-budget counterparts from different companies.

Performance and Storage:

So the overall performance of YU Yunique can be rated as above average, 7/10. Simply because you cannot ask for superficial/ extremely fancy stuff out of such a budget smartphone.

Now when we tried to play some heavy games, the phone started to heat up in an awkward way, a little too fast! When we checked, the temperature was 61 degrees Celsius!

And it won’t be normal for at least 10 minutes, so try not to play too many heavy games. Also, if you play a regular video, it doesn’t show any kind of lag. But when you try and play 4K HD videos, the sound will vanish in a few places. But then again, we were pushing our luck just by playing a 4K HD video on a 5000 rupee smartphone.

When we played music during our YU Yunique review, the output was really great. But then another disadvantage was that if you keep the phone down on a flat surface, the voice will be muffled. YU Yunique comes with 4-5 GB of free internal storage which is an ample amount of storage considering that you can use a microSD card to expand this.

Camera and Battery:

As is allowed in such a stringent budget, the Yunique comes with a good quality camera, rear 8 MP and front 2 MP. When it comes to picture quality it’s decent in daylight but low-light performance wasn’t that great.

We hardly found any lags while focussing. Daylight pictures turned out to be pretty good for both the front and rear cameras. But the only funny part is the face detection feature, which acts weird when it tries to detect your face. You will be smiling and it will show a smiley face and if not then a different emoticon-styled face.

Battery life is decent on this device as it easily lasts through the day. To find out more about this smartphone don’t forget to view the below video.
