Xiaomi Mi 4 Hands On, Preview, Specs and Price in India

With the passing of time, flagship models of various companies have become more accessible apart from companies like Apple. Most of the high-end Android-based smartphones are now available for a good price and the smartphone revolution has really made it easier for people to get a high-end smartphone for a suitable price.

Xiaomi is one such company that is known for its value-for-money handsets. The flagship model of the MI series MI 4 was launched yesterday in India. Mi 4 was launched in India by Hugo Barra. A lot of facts and information about Xiaomi as well the MIUI were presented and we would like to tell some of them to you now!

There are around 25k people on the media fan forum of Xiaomi. India-specific themes for MIUI have been launched keeping in mind the Indian customers e.g. Rajnikanth based theme for MIUI. 100 Exclusive service centers by 2015 are Xiaomi’s target.

And exclusive service centers are expected to go up from 5 to 100+. Also, a 20000 sq ft office is coming up soon in Bangalore.

MIUI was released first in August 2010. The MIUI has 85 million plus users in the world right now and it’s one of the most popular ROMs around the world. Also, an average Xiaomi user spends 7% more time in apps compared to iPhone users.

MIUI 6 is now coming to India. Beta tests have been running for a long time and many users are expected to get the various updates soon!

Xiaomi MI 4 specs overview

On 16 Aug 2011, the first MI phone was launched. One of the MI 3 variants was the world’s first Tegra 4 mobile.
The MI 4 has a fully metal forged body, and the sides are fingerprint-proof, sand-blasted, and smooth as silk sides. The chamfer is metallic and glossy. 2.63 mm is the bezel distance and 0.05 mm is the distance between the metal frame and glass at the edge of the handset.

Extensive use of automation was done in order to build this handset. Us $300 million has been spent on r&d. The phone weighs only 149 gms. It has 3 GB LPDDR3 RAM which is one of the fastest available.

It has the Snapdragon 801 chipset which can be found on many flagships like the One plus one and the erstwhile Nexus. The phone has a 3080 mah li-ion polymer battery which will last you 1.5 days on a full charge and even more if you use the phone mildly without heavy gaming and extensive surfing. The phone offers 280 hours of standby time.

It also employs fast charging which takes 2.5 hours for a full charge and this feature is powered by the Qualcomm quick charge 2.0 standard.

The phone has 16 GB EMMC 5.0 flash memory and a 5-inch IPS 1080p display giving a 441 PPI full HD display. The phone has a corning one-glass solution for the screen.

The glass and touch panel are single pieces and not two components which makes you feel as if you are directly touching the pixels. 0.55 mm is the overall thickness of the display which is scratch resistant as well as shatter resistant.

The Xiaomi MI 4 has a highly sensitive touch screen that works even with wet hands and gloves. (Glove mode). It has a 1000:1 contrast ratio for display and up to 95% NTSC color reproduction which gives an overall really good color saturation.

The phone has a primary camera which is 13 MP with f1.8 aperture and the front one i.e. the secondary camera is 8 MP with f1.8 aperture which is a really impressive megapixel count for a secondary camera. 13 Mp camera with Sony imx214 stacked CMOS. Rear 6p lens. It has a High dynamic range intelligent built-in flash (chroma flash).

The front camera is an 80° wide-angle front camera for awesome selfies and it has a Face beautification feature enabled by default for selfies set at a preset of medium beautification.

It has an auto-focus time of 0.3 seconds and the autofocus supports object tracking! The primary camera supports 4k HD video recording, real-time HDR, skin smoothing, AF object tracking as well as High dynamic flash.

It has Dynamic contrast pixel adjustment which renders extreme contrast changes in the pictures in a well-lit manner.

You can also use the MI 4 as a universal remote as it has an infrared sensor. It is a single sim 3g device and the main competition this device has from its range is from the One Plus one.

Whether you choose the one plus one or the Xiaomi MI 4 it all boils down to which custom OS based on Android you like more CyanogenMod or MIUI. For the time being our hand is in favor of MIUI, your choice can make it easy for you to select one of these two awesome devices in the 20k range!
